Bettas are intelligent, interactive fish. A properly sized, heated, filtered aquarium is easier to keep stable than a bowl and gives them space to explore.

A stable aquarium is the foundation of good betta care.
Cycle the aquarium before adding fish and test the water regularly, especially during the first several weeks.
Filtration & Water
Choose gentle filtration that does not push the betta around. Keep ammonia and nitrite at 0 ppm, control nitrate with regular partial water changes, and always condition tap water.
Food & Enrichment
Feed a quality betta food in small portions and remove leftovers. Add smooth hiding places, broad plant leaves, and easy access to the surface without sharp decorations.
Tankmates: Never house two adult male bettas together. Compatibility varies by the individual fish and aquarium; avoid fin-nipping species and ask for guidance before combining livestock.
