Filter Care

Clean your filter without resetting your aquarium.

Filters hold important beneficial bacteria. The goal is to restore flow and remove buildup without making everything sterile.

Safe Filter Cleaning

Rinse gently. Replace slowly.

Only clean a filter when flow has dropped or maintenance is due. The exact routine depends on the filter type.

Use Removed Tank Water

Rinse sponges and reusable media in a bucket of water removed from the aquarium, not untreated tap water.

Keep Biological Media

Do not replace every sponge, cartridge, or biological material at once. Stagger changes so bacteria remain in the system.

Check Flow & Parts

Clean the impeller area, intake, and tubing as needed. Reassemble carefully and confirm normal flow after restarting.

After cleaning: Watch the tank and test water if anything seems unusual. A filter should run continuously except during brief maintenance.
