Cichlids are rewarding fish, but compatibility depends on species, adult size, tank footprint, hiding places, and the fish already living there.

Before You Buy

Plan for adult behavior, not just juvenile size.

There is no universal cichlid mix. Send Gigi the full tank details before combining new fish.

Longer, wider aquariums create more territory and escape routes. Plan around adult fish size and swimming space.

Do not assume colorful fish are compatible. Some cichlids are territorial, some are predatory, and some need very different water conditions.

Rocks, caves, wood, and sight breaks can reduce constant chasing. Secure all hardscape and leave open areas for swimming.

Before adding a cichlid: Share tank dimensions, current fish, filtration, water parameters, and the exact species you want to add.
